Obesity is rapidly becoming a consequential problem.

It is the accumulation of excessive fat around the body. It can turn into a chronic illness as it invites the risk of other health issues such as heart ailments, diabetes, abnormal cholesterol levels, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, arthritis, ulcer, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), bulimia, etc.

Obesity is determined by BMI (Body Mass Index). Body Mass Index is derived from the mass and height of the person. An ideal BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. A BMI above 30 indicates obesity.

Obesity occurs when the consumption of food is in preponderance and exterminating those calories are scarce. While women develop excess fat around their hips, abdomen and limbs, men develop it around their waistline where it circulates through the liver.

Yoga plays a significant role in decimating the problem of obesity. With consistent practice of Asanas and Pranayamas, one can regulate their weight of the body.

  • KAPALBHATI PRANAYAMA: With regular practice, Kapalbhati helps in minimizing abdominal fat, combats obesity, tone abdominal muscles and heap on core abdominal strength and power🧘‍♀️
  • ANULOM-VILOM PRANAYAMA: With proper and regular practice, this pranayama can cure obesity by enhancing your digestive system, thereby curtailing the problems of constipation as well🧘‍
  • BHASTRIKA PRANAYAMA: This pranayama heightens your metabolic rate which helps the body to burn fat faster- advocating weight loss. It also sows the seed of heat in your body and opens up your energy pathways🧘‍♀️

  • Include cardio-based exercises like running, jogging, brisk walking, skipping to keep your heart healthy. Again, people with heart ailments, High BP, etc. must take precautions.
  • Do not stress as it can lead to overeating.
  • Pursue a hobby. Quit procrastination and adopt spontaneity.
  • Cut down the consumption of junk food and sweets. Follow a clean and balanced diet.
  • Practice positivity- perceive good thoughts and aspirations. Nurture yourself by bestowing immense love and care. Meditate and channelize your inner soul and energy, make good use of it.
  • You can even incorporate Pilates along with Yoga to boost up your energy levels.
