President’s Message
It is my honour and privilege to welcome you to the official website of the Foundation for Obesity Research and Metabolic Surgery (FORMS). Since its establishment in 2016, FORMS has been committed to advancing the science and practice of obesity management, metabolic surgery, and multidisciplinary patient care across India.
FORMS was conceived during my tenure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, with a clear vision — to create a scientific, academic and collaborative platform dedicated to addressing the growing burden of obesity and metabolic disorders in our country. Our mission has always been to bring together clinicians, surgeons, nutritionists, researchers, and allied healthcare professionals to promote evidence-based treatment, meaningful research, and high-quality education.
- AIIMS BARICON 2016, 2019 & 2022 — landmark conferences that brought together national and international experts in bariatric and metabolic surgery, fostering high-level scientific exchange and hands-on learning.
- BARIMES — a specialised academic series focused on metabolic surgery advancements, Post Graduates and Trainees.
- BARICARE – CME on Bariatric Nutrition — a unique educational platform for dietitians, nutritionists and clinicians, highlighting the critical role of nutrition in comprehensive obesity management.
- Multiple workshops, symposiums and training programmes that have strengthened skills, encouraged research, and supported capacity-building for young and upcoming surgeons across India.
These initiatives stand as testimony to the society’s unwavering commitment to raising standards, spreading awareness and continuously advancing the field of obesity and metabolic care.
Today, as I serve as Chairman – Minimal Access, GI, Bariatric & Robotic Surgery at Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, I am immensely proud of the growth and impact of FORMS. The passion, active participation and dedication of our members continue to drive our mission forward. Together, we have built a platform that values academic integrity, clinical excellence and patient-centred innovation.
As we look ahead, FORMS remains dedicated to expanding its academic footprint through more International-level conferences, certified training modules, and public-awareness initiatives. Our goal is clear — to elevate the standards of metabolic and bariatric care in India and to create a healthier future driven by science, compassion and collaboration.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members, faculty, collaborators and trainees whose contributions have shaped this journey. Your steadfast support continues to fuel the growth and vision of FORMS.
